Adair is a town in Mayes County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 790 at the 2010 census, compared to 704 at the 2000 census. Named for two prominent Cherokee brothers, the town was established in 1883. It opened a Cherokee school.
Adair is named after two&nbsp;Cherokee&nbsp;brothers,&nbsp;William Penn Adair, a politician and jurist, and Dr. Walter Thompson Adair.&nbsp;It was established on March 15, 1883, and incorporated in 1897. William Penn Adair lived in the area off and on for 17 years beginning in the late 1860s. In the 1880s, a Cherokee school was started here. In 1907, shortly before statehood, the school began to admit white students. Adair is named after two&nbsp;Cherokee&nbsp;brothers,&nbsp;William Penn Adair, a politician and jurist, and Dr. Walter Thompson Adair. As of the 2010&nbsp;census, Adair had a population of 790.&nbsp;The&nbsp;population density&nbsp;was 180 people per square mile (68/km2). The town's 315 housing units were dispersed at an average density of 70 per square mile (27/km2). The racial and ethnic composition of the population was 72.4% white, 0.1% black or African American, 18.9% Native American, 0.6% reporting some other race and 8.0% reporting two or more races. 3.5% of the population was Hispanic or Latino. There were 272 households, out of which 36.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.7% were&nbsp;married couples&nbsp;living together, 12.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.8% were non-families. 23.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 3.06.

Adair

Located south of Tulsa, Bixby is known for its competitive school system offering great academic and athletic opportunities. Known as one of the fastest-growing cities in Ok, Bixby has retained a friendly, small-town feel, with beautiful neighborhoods, numerous churches and many community amenities. The area parks, along with its extensive trail system significantly add to the community&rsquo;s quality of life. The 115-acre, Bentley Park Sports Complex was recently recognized for the &ldquo;Top Design in the State&rdquo; by The Oklahoma Recreational Sports Society. Bixby is also proud of its Washington Irving and Charley Young Parks. Lake Bixhoma is located just five miles southeast of Bixby on Leonard Mountain and is considered a nature lover&rsquo;s dream. Bixby was impacted and enriched by the discovery of nearby natural gas deposits in 1905-1906 and oil fields in 1913, but farming remained the backbone of the community well into the 20th Century.&nbsp;Early farmers focused on production of&nbsp;cotton,&nbsp;wheat&nbsp;and&nbsp;alfalfa&nbsp;in the rich river bottom. During the 1930s, truck farming of&nbsp;vegetables&nbsp;slowly replaced those crops. In 1941, Bixby became an important regional center for shipping produce by railroads. It was at that time that Bixby was christened with its nickname "The Garden Spot of Oklahoma," a designation still carried on the town seal and public vehicles.&nbsp;Cantaloupes,&nbsp;potatoes,&nbsp;radishes,&nbsp;squash,&nbsp;turnips,&nbsp;spinach&nbsp;and&nbsp;sweet corn&nbsp;were shipped from Bixby all over the U.S. In time, the majority of the truck farms were converted to the production of&nbsp;sod, typically&nbsp;Bermuda grass, or developed for residential and other purposes. Only a small percentage of Bixby residents now work in&nbsp;agriculture, but the town continues to celebrate its earthy roots with the yearly "Green Corn Festival" in June.
As of the 2010 census, there were 20,884 people, 7,658 households, and 5,295 families residing in the city. The&nbsp;population density&nbsp;was 889.3 people per square mile (344/km2). There were 8,187 housing units at an average density of 319.8 per square mile (94.9/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 84.2%&nbsp;White, 1.6%&nbsp;African American, 5.9%&nbsp;Native American, 1.6%&nbsp;Asian, 0.01%&nbsp;Pacific Islander, 1.9% from&nbsp;other races, and 4.8% from two or more races.&nbsp;Hispanic&nbsp;or&nbsp;Latino of any race were 4.9% of the population.&nbsp;There were 7,658 households, out of which 30.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.4% were&nbsp;married couples&nbsp;living together, 8.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.6% were non-families. 19.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.72 and the average family size was 3.12.

Bixby

As the fourth largest city in Oklahoma, and the second fastest growing city in the state, Broken Arrow Real Estate is highly sought-after. A $4 million makeover sponsored by civic leaders is currently transforming this historic downtown with fewer traffic lanes, wider sidewalks and mid-block crossings, making it more pedestrian-friendly. The Rose District offers local boutiques and specialty shops, restaurants, a PAC and beautiful landscaping. 

Broken Arrow boasts high performing schools, affordable housing, a low crime rate, and access to many beautiful parks and community festivals including Rooster Days and Blue Bell’s Taste of Summer. Additionally, the Broken Arrow Fire Department has the best rating in Northeast Oklahoma.

Broken Arrow

In 1881, Chelsea began as a stop on the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad. A post office was established in November 1882. The community incorporated as a town in the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, in 1889. The town was surveyed and platted in 1902. The Bank of Chelsea, the first state bank in Indian Territory, began operation in March 1896.
The town economy has historically rested on farming, ranching and oil production. Important farm products were oats, corn, wheat and pecans. A flour mill built circa 1892 was one of Chelsea's original industries. Chelsea became noted as a shipping point for cattle and hay before statehood in 1907. The Chelsea-Alluwe oil field was discovered southwest of Chelsea in 1889 by the United States Oil and Gas Company.
According to the American Oil &amp; Gas Historical Society, Edward Byrd, whose wife was a Cherokee woman, discovered oil seeps in 1882 southwest Chelsea, which was then part of the Cherokee Nation in Indian Territory. He apparently took no action to exploit his discovery until 1887, when he and William B. Linn, a Pennsylvanian, and a group of investors from Kansas organized the United States Oil and Gas Company (USOGC). The company subsequently leased drilling rights from the Cherokee Nation on 100,000 acres (400 km2) of land lying west of Chelsea between the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad and the Verdigris River. USOGC completed its first well in 1890, on Spencer Creek. It was a rudimentary operation, compared to productive sites completed a few years later. The well began producing a half barrel of good-quality crude per day from a depth of only 36 feet (11 m). This was enough for USOGC enthusiasts to claim it was, "... the first oil well in Oklahoma."
Chelsea's claim to the first oil well proved to be untrue. Although USOGC drilled ten other wells on its lease in the next two years, the total production was said to be only 12 barrels, economically insignificant, after which the company ceased operating. The Cherokee Oil and Gas Company then took over the lease. By then, the Cherokee government had limited the size of each lease to 12,000 acres (49 km2). It and other companies later drilled more productive wells which proved economically viable. The whole area became known as the Chelsea-Alluwe Oil Field. Significant production dropped after 1916 and the oil companies stopped work in this field shortly after.

Chelsea 

Chouteau, originally called Cody's Creek, became a stop on the&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missouri%E2%80%93Kansas%E2%80%93Texas_Railroad" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Katy railroad</a>&nbsp;in 1871. It soon became a thriving cattle town.&nbsp;The name was changed to Chouteau after the creek that flows north of town that was named for French fur trader&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auguste_Pierre_Chouteau" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Auguste Pierre Chouteau</a>&nbsp;from the&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chouteau" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Chouteau</a>&nbsp;family. Auguste created the first permanent white settlement in present-day&nbsp;<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salina,_Oklahoma" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Salina, Oklahoma</a>.

Claremore is a city and the county seat of Rogers County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 18,581 at the 2010 census, a 17.1 percent increase from 15,873 at the 2000 census.

Collinsville is a city in Rogers and Tulsa counties in the U.S. state of Oklahoma, and a part of the Tulsa, Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was named for Dr. A. H. Collins, an engineer and surveyor who first surveyed the land that became this community.

<h2 class="subhead1 ">Formation of Coweta</h2>
<q>On an elevated, undulating prairie, at an altitude of about 800 feet above sea level in the choicest part of the Creek Nation lies the prosperous, attractive town of Coweta...such is the location of this live town. A happier, a more fortunate choice for a town location could not have been made</q>.
This quote was taken from Coweta&rsquo;s first newspaper, The Courier, in about 1903. But, that&nbsp;<q>fortunate choice for a town</q>&nbsp;was made about 80 years earlier, during the Removal of the Five Civilized Tribes from the Eastern United States to the to the&nbsp;<q>West</q>&nbsp;or Oklahoma as it is called today.

<h2 class="subhead1 ">Early Settlers</h2>
In 1827, William McIntosh, along with Creeks from Coweta, Broken Arrow, Lochapoka and Big Spring arrived at the&nbsp;<q>Three Forks</q>&nbsp;of the Arkansas, Verdigris and Grand Rivers. By 1839 and 1840, these settlers had spread northward along the Arkansas River where Coweta, Broken Arrow and Tulsa are today. In 1843, white missionaries arrived in Coweta to teach the Indian children.
Reverend Robert Loughridge and his wife, Olivia, bought an empty cabin for ten dollars and began teaching. He named the mission&nbsp;<q>Koweta</q>. Olivia and her child are buried in the Bruner Family Cemetery on the Hopping Farm a mile and a half southeast of Coweta.
During the Civil War, the mission was abandoned. In 1867, the Creeks adopted a constitution which divided their nation into six districts.
<h2 class="subhead1 ">Geography, Courthouse, &amp; Allotment of Tribal Lands</h2>
The Coweta district was comprised of Creek land northeast of the Arkansas River which included Tulsa. The political center of the Coweta district was a one-room long courthouse built on the banks of the Coweta Creek. This was about one-fourth mile west of downtown Coweta.
The Dawes Commission, appointed by the United States Congress, negotiated the allotment of tribal lands in 1898. At this time, the Creek court&rsquo;s jurisdiction was given to the Federal government. In 1903, the Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad built a line from Tulsa to Muskogee with Coweta as a stop. This was the beginning of Coweta&rsquo;s major growth.
<h3 class="subhead2 ">Professions</h3>
The first newspaper began publication, a telephone line was installed, and a school was built. The discovery of oil and statehood brought more white settlers to Coweta. There were:

Once known as a suburb of Tulsa, Owasso has established itself as a partner to Tulsa, as well as to the surrounding cities of Pryor, Claremore, Collinsville, Catoosa, Skiatook, Bartlesville and even Southeast Kansas.

Owasso

Pryor Creek or Pryor is a city in and county seat of Mayes County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 8,659 at the 2000 census, compared to 9,539 in the 2010 census.Originally named Coo-Y-Yah, Cherokee for "place of the huckleberries", it was renamed Pryor Creek in 1887 which was the name of the local railroad station, which is turn was named for the nearby creek. Due to confusion in distinguishing handwritten mailing addresses to Pryor Creek and Pond Creek, the U.S. Postal Service name for the city was shortened to Pryor, and both names are in common usage.Pryor is located in northeast Oklahoma at the intersection of US Route 69 and Oklahoma State Highway 20. The stream known as Pryor Creek flows past the west and south sides of the city.According to the&nbsp;United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.5&nbsp;square miles (16.9&nbsp;km²), of which, 6.5&nbsp;square miles (16.8&nbsp;km²) of it is land and 0.04&nbsp;square miles (0.1&nbsp;km²) of it (0.31%) is water.

Pryor

Sand Springs is located six miles west of Tulsa and offers a quaint, family-friendly environment. This progressive city has a population of nearly 20,000 and an area of 22 square miles, with an extended growth area of 150 square miles. 

Each spring for over 30 years the city has hosted the popular Herbal Affair & Festival, which draws crowds of over 25,000 people. More than 100 vendors are on hand selling herbs, plants gardening supplies, décor and more. Live music and great food complete the festival. 

Sand Springs is home to Pogue Airport, located four miles northwest of the central business district and has a 5,800-foot long runway. Sand Springs also owns and operates Canyons at Blackjack Ridge, a challenging 18-hole golf course in the hills and canyons north of the city. Keystone State Park on Lake Keystone is 7.5 miles from Sand Springs and offers cabins RV sites, hiking & fitness trails and much more in family outdoor recreation.
